Since 2001 AEIPS – Associação para o Estudo e Integração Psicossocial (Association for the Study and Psychosocial Integration), a Portuguese Community Based Mental Health Organization, offers a Supported Education Program to people with psychiatric disabilities. AEIPS’s program supports students in all levels of education, and its purpose is to increase academic qualifications of people with psychiatric disabilities, and improve their better access to jobs in the open labour market. This poster describes what values, support services and resources are used to empower students to choose, get and keep their educational projects in regular schools in the community.
Further more it presents how this type of programs contributes to community integration of its participants and to a more inclusive school and society.
Lucia Oliveira studied Social Politics in ISCSP – Universidade de Lisboa. She’s been working in several projects at AEIPS since 1997 mainly in Supported Employment and since 2008 in the Supported Education Program.
Luis Sá Fernandes studied Psychology in ISPA – Instituto Universitário. He’s been working in AEIPS since 2011 in the Supported Education Program.
Currently they are representing AEIPS in the ImpulSE European Project.
